Thermotech performs heat treatment services on pipes and steel constructions, both on- and offshore. With Termotech's long experience in heat treatment, we can offer planning and project consultancy. Our heat treatment equipment can be rented with or without our highly skilled technicians. We also perform heat treatment services at our workshops either in furnaces or by traditional heat treatment, and perform repairs and calibration on demand.
Thermotech performs three types of heat treatment methods:
Pre-Heating is normally applied to weld areas before and during welding as a precaution against moisture buildup, which can cause potential hydrogen cracking in the heat effected zones. Pre-Heating is also intended to prevent the heat-effected areas cooling too fast during welding, thus avoiding the undesirable effect of Martensiteformation.
Post-Heating, combined with pre-Heating, is applied to heat zones for Hydrogen-diffusion.
Stress-relieving is applied when the stress levels in a weld zone are to be reduced. If this is not done, there is a danger that the welding areas can result in the brittle-cracking and stress-corrosion cracking of metal surfaces; hence, premature metal fatigue.Stress-relieving will also reduce the hardness and tensile yield strength. In addition, stress-relieving is applied when a metal construction has to be stabilised, so that a machine tooling operation can begin.
Normalizing
Normalizing of metal surfaces is applied when the rough granular surface of a metal weld is to be restructured to a fine granular surface structure. This process of recrystallisation is carried out under carefully controlled conditions.
These conditions are achieved by using either our own furnaces, or sophisticated portable equipment for on-site manipulation.
