The right solution starts with the right understanding

The phone can ring for many reasons.

Sometimes it's urgent. Something is leaking. A job has stalled. Other times it's a planned outage, a repair, or a collaboration that needs to be built over time.

At Thermotech's Bergen branch, it is often Trond Inge Johnsen who answers the first phone call. And even though the need may be clear to the customer, the solution is not always fully defined.

“It rarely starts with a ready-made solution. It starts with a problem the customer needs to solve,” says Trond Inge, sales manager at Thermotech at the Bergen branch.

Before packing the car

When a customer contacts you, it's easy to think that the first thing that needs to be in place is people and equipment.

But for Trond Inge, the job starts somewhere else.

What has happened? How critical is it? Is there a problem? What happens if the problem is not resolved quickly enough?

– The customer should get the right solution, at the right time and at the right cost. Then we have to ask good questions early, not just send out the first and biggest layout.

When pace must be combined with experience

Many of the assignments in Bergen come at short notice, so things have to happen quickly.

– We often work as firefighters. Then the customer needs to know that we respond, assess the situation quickly and find a way forward.

Much of the startup phase is about connecting the need with the right expertise. If you send the wrong people, the wrong equipment or the wrong solution, you haven't really saved time. You've just moved the problem.

– The customer doesn't always need the most. Often they need the right people, with the right experience, at the right time.

Close to industry in Bergen

The Bergen branch is located close to much of the industry in Western Norway. This provides a short distance to the outside world, but also good knowledge of the everyday lives of our customers.

– We know the industry here. This allows us to turn things around quickly, while also building long-term relationships.

Because even though many assignments start in a hurry, the goal is not just to rush out and get it done. The goal is for the customer to feel confident about the assessment, the people who will come and the work that will be done.

To stand in the field

Trond Inge himself has many years of experience as an operator on the job, which influences the way he plans today.

– I know what it's like to have your offshore bag more or less packed. You can come home after a long trip, and then you have to turn around again because the customer needs help, says Trond Inge before continuing:

– We must deliver for the customer, but we must also take care of our operators. Work is a very important value for me, but family is just above it. Therefore, I understand the balance our people are in.

It's an honest reminder of what lies behind fast delivery: people who show up, go out and get the job done.
